If your developer hasn't already told you that fixed width's are wrong, then
you need to seriously question his suitability, and ask yourself if you're
hiring the right man for the job....

Web designs should be fluid....I design my pages with percentages rather
than fixed dimensions.....This way, the design will scale itself to fit any
screen size.....

Yep. I'm using 800x600 at the moment. It is easily possible to code any
web page such that it looks good in any resolution. Any website that looks
bad at 800x600 is run by a clueless person.

Have your designer use percentage tables, not pixel sized tables...that way
the pages adjust to the resolution of the screen.

In addition, a 1000 plus pixel monitor does not guarantee that the browser
is open to the full width of the screen. Consequently, a 1000 pixel plus
design will not size correctly in that browser unless the browser is open
full screen.

Frankly, your designer should have told you this upfront. In fact, it
should have been one of the first things they explained to you.

It should work in 800 but like others said be fluid up to higher res. take a look
at <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.bannerx.net" target="_blank">www.bannerx.net</a> not a great design but resize the window to any size and it
adjusts. the cloud picture doesn't scale but the rest does.

The server was going down an hour or so every day about a month ago, might still be
that problem - server move - but its working my side when I check.

By 'tables' you meant 'divs', right

1280x1024 is my usual and I rarely browse full-screen. In fact, my
browser window is probably sometimes less than 800px across even on this
resolution.

Yep. Like others have said, he/she should have mentioned the problems a
fixed-width design will cause you.

Hmmm...Interestiung......I'm finding that it doesn't scale to 800x600.....I
get a horisontal scroll bar.....Havent triued it bigger, but I assume it's

right not the best example, I only had 800 res to program it in and had to guess
what it would look like higher. the scroll bar just brings the right margin into view though
