Anyone using one of those 800 number services.
You pay $10.00/month, 100 free minutes, calls can be forwarded to any phone,
you're assigned your own 800 number.
Anyone using one, a good reputable one, any problems, things to watch out
for, recommendations, etc..

There is a whole separate newsgroup for this matter:
comp.dcom.telecom
You'll find abundance of info on 800,888,877,866 numbers, virtual voicemails
etc. Be prepared to have a VoIP device (such as USB or SIP phone) to use
some of these services.

Ken,
I've got an 800 number. I got it through my long distance provider; I'm
paying (I think) 4.9 cents/minute for its usage - same as my long
distance bill.
$10.00 for 100 minutes is a rip-off. Find a long distance provider who
will tie it into your regular service.
Oh - and BTW, this comes without a listing in 800 information. You will
need to pay extra for that if you want it - typically around $25/mo.
I can't say whether it's helped or hurt. Virtually all my customers are
corporations, and they typically don't care about calling an 800
number. However, it may provide some little bit of respectability.
The only downside is the wrong numbers I get on that line. The number
is similar to 1) A left coast car insurance customer service number, 2)
A southeast US Job Corps number, and 3) GST Canada's french speaking
number. The last is the worst - I don't speak french, and can't tell
the french-only speakers they have the wrong number <G>. Other than
that, it's a minor hassle. All the wrong numbers together probably cost
me $2-3 in a bad month.
BTW - I also have an 800 number on my house phone. Same deal; it comes
in handy when I'm on the road and have used up all my free cell
minutes. It's much cheaper than using a credit card. the hotel phone or
the extra minutes on my cell phone.
Wanna hear about my pager with it's own 800 number, also? <G>

I'll have to call the long distance provider, may be the way to go, though I've
heard of people having problems going this route.
The wrong number issue: Never, ever gave that a thought. Thanks for that
heads up.
