I have an IIS web server set up to accept host name
"www.mycompany.com" as well as just "mycompany.com". Some users have
no problem with either host name, but some users can only use
"www.mycompany.com"... if they try "mycompany.com", they get "403
Forbidden". Any idea what could be causing this?

What sort of 403 are you getting (sub-status error).

If this is IIS6, you can find the sub-status error in the web logs for the
request. Otherwise, you need the user to disable IE's "Show Friendly HTTP
Errors" option and find the actual sub-status error.

This sub-status error should lead us to what's wrong.

Do you have your external DNS configured with A record for both <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.myc..." target="_blank">www.myc...</a>
and mycom....?
