Hello.

I am running Apache 1.3.29 on OSX 10.2.8. Everything runs fine in first
place, but over time the system will slow down and the CPU usage clibs
like crazy. If I use TOP in the terminal there are more and more httpd
commands showing up in the list, all using abou 0,1 to 0,5% CPU. What is
going wrong here? I already tried to limit connections to 50 but it did
not work.

Regards,
Sebastian.

I'd say that the processes get stuck and can't be terminated,
so Apache keep spawning more processes. No info in the Apache log?

I'd have to say that I am using the proxy function. Without the proxy it
all seems to run fine. With the proxy enabled I get millions of
"permission denied: proxy: utimes" errors. The Path it shows is correct,
and the folder belongs to www, group wheel.

What should I do?<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

utimes is a system call to change access or modification times of
an inode (file), maybe in OSX (BSD) it's implemented in a different
way. I'd post a bug note to the people that ported apache to BSD
because I've never saw such behavour.

Thank you very much! So until now there is not a lot that I can do
there, right? As I already meantioned before: it must have something to
do with the proxy. I disabled the proxy yesterday and I do not get this
behaviour again. Before I had the system locking up with high CPU usage
after roughly 24 hours. Of course it depends on the usage of the proxy
as it seems that every request will result in a non terminated httpd
command.

Any other suggestions?

Sebastian.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
